SquareMeal Review of
Copeland Park’s art deco, light-industrial buildings are home to numerous creatives, funky business start-ups and, since spring 2015, to cute café-cum-DJ bar The Nines. Set in an old garage, the venue is a key component of a multi-dimensional space that offers alfresco chilling, barbecues, live music, cinema screenings, and the sort of alt social activities that have established Peckham as a compelling locale. Meantime and Camden breweries head the beer list, while quality cocktails (reasonably priced and appealingly presented in vintage glasses) use fresh pressed purées, herbal infusions and homemade bitters. Typical calls might be Elderflower Gin Fizz, sweet and sour Cherry Manhattan or Blood Orange Old Fashioned, as well as cups, shrubs and sharing bowls. Food (small plates, served at communal tables) could include duck rillettes; arancini; soft-boiled egg with asparagus; dumplings; and, more substantially, pork belly with new potatoes, broad beans and romesco sauce – followed by trad puds.
