SquareMeal Review of The Mole & Chicken

Fabulous views of the surrounding countryside are just one reason why crowds flock to this ivy-covered pub/restaurant on the Buckinghamshire border. A lovely alfresco terrace makes the most of the vistas, while the sympathetically extended interior promises whitewashed walls, designer fabrics, leather seating and country-chic trappings as well as a warren of little rooms with log fires and cosy comforts. The kitchen mixes pub classics such as fish and chips or 28-day aged steaks with flashier restaurant-style offerings ranging from a plate of shaved fennel, Caerphilly cheese and pomegranate to grilled Cornish mackerel with beetroot, kohlrabi and grapefruit dressing or braised shoulder of lamb with creamed spinach, heritage potatoes and fresh mint. To finish, order Neal’s Yard cheeses or one of the comforting puds – caramelised apple tart with cinnamon ice cream, for example. Gluggable wines too.
