SquareMeal Review of
The Melody Restaurant
An oasis of calm and luxury in the middle of Hammersmith, this eatery takes its name from the 1971 international cult film produced by David Puttnam, that was shot here, in the old St Paul’s School building. The pastel-coloured restaurant, which overlooks a rare stretch of green, luxuriates in deep upholstered chairs, swaggered curtains and chandeliers – it’s the picture of an English dining room. The menu is not quite so confined, showing plenty of ambition and zest. Start with lasagne of Dorset crab served with a simple beurre blanc or grilled octopus with a casserole of chickpeas. Follow with Welsh lamb with spiced aubergine and olive tapenade or chicken breast with baby artichokes and preserved lemon. Finish with chocolate fondant with warm espresso cream.
