The Mall Tavern

SquareMeal Review of The Mall Tavern

Step up for a dose of nostalgia at the Mall Tavern, where dishes such as cow pie, parsnip & sherry ‘cup o’ soup’ & Arctic roll conjure up 80s’ Britain as clearly as the ‘iron lady’ & the miners’ strike. There’s chicken Kiev, too, artlessly piled onto a mound of coleslaw & hash browns. Meanwhile, bar snacks delve even further back into British culinary history – so enjoy your pint with a slice of Gala pie & mushroom ketchup or pork crackling with Bramley apple sauce. Worn leather banquettes, bare wooden tables & French-grey paint give the high-ceilinged room a scruffily homely feel, which is further softened by junk-shop finds & royal bric-a-brac. Finally, save room for a plate of salted caramel ‘Rolos’ & all those childhood yearnings will be amply rewarded.

The private dining room served for the perfect office Christmas party. I wish it was my local!
