SquareMeal Review of
The Kings Arms Bethnal Green
Even non-locals would do well to scope out this appealing Hoxton/Bethnal Green backstreet boozer, which is invariably packed with happy punters at tables around an old island bar. The sober Edwardian-style interior – stripped back and tastefully downplayed in dark hues, with a butterfly theme throughout – sits well with the pub’s working-class roots. Craft beers are king here. When we visit, classy kegs include the mighty Beavertown Stingy Jack (7.2% abv); True Blonde, from Colorado outfit Ska; Gaston, a smooth Belgian-inspired pale ale from East Sussex brewer Burning Sky; and an interesting cast of cask ales, porter and ciders such as Hallets Rum Cask. Enjoy with a selection of cheeses and cold cuts or Scotch eggs and a side helping of rebel yell rock 'n' roll sounds. The Kings Arms is part of the Barworks empire, which also includes Well & Bucket and Electricity Showrooms – both within walking distance.
