The Grand by Concerto
Swish café-bars have a place in London – and Piccadilly is one of those places. The Grand, part of the Italian-accented Concerto group, fits the bill to a (cream) T, with its handsome art deco stylings, light interior and plentiful chandeliers. High-class patisserie, made in-house, also positions the venue at the luxe end of café-dom, as does a menu of European brasserie classics ranging from prawn and crayfish brioche rolls, via duck breast with caramelised grapefruit and mixed-leaf salad, to fresh handmade tortellini with black truffles and ricotta – with cheese or chocolate fondue thrown in for good measure. This is also the natural habitat for afternoon teas and The Grand doesn’t disappoint, providing a set selection for under £20 along with macarons, chocolates, a compendium of infusions and multifarious cocktails. Occasional live music (nothing too raucous, naturally) peps up proceedings.
