At what was previously The Paradise Inn, The Glory is the product of the feverish imagination of Jonny Woo, darling of the east London alternative gay scene. It’s a multifunctional space: a quirkily decked out ‘super pub’, incorporating a camp cabaret and a naughty nightclub in the basement. Here you’ll find cheap booze, divine debauchery, delinquent drag, dishy staff and discotekking to DJs John Sizzle and Ma Butcher. Share a pint with ‘Mary Portas Queen of Shops’, one of Woo’s various wickedly drawn alter egos, who joins cult show ponies such as Bourgeois & Maurice and Le Gateau Chocolat on the stage. With the closure of Bistrotheque’s cabaret bar – and venues such as Madame Jojo’s and The Joiner’s Arms seemingly doomed – The Glory fills a hole in the market. Woo hoo!
