SquareMeal Review of
The Garden Bar at Stoke Place
‘Countryside cocktails’ frequently involve little more than dumping a concessionary sugar lump into a glass of fizz, but The Garden Bar favours a wide-ranging list with an English flavour that’s
just right for Stoke Place’s jazzed-up sense of tradition. The signature cocktail Howard’s Muddle (47% abv Broker’s gin, lime and elderflower) is named in honour of the mansion’s one-time owner,
and the theme is tweaked for English garden (gin, apple juice, lime and elderflower) and English rose (gin, lemon, apricot brandy and grenadine). Otherwise, the bartenders play it straight with
confidently executed Manhattans, cosmos, brambles and caipirinhas, while wine buffs can dip into a lengthy list from The Garden Room Restaurant next door. It may be only five minutes from Slough,
but sitting out on the terrace before well-manicured croquet lawns, a fishing lake and dense woodland, you’d never know it.
