The Fire Station

Squaremeal Review of The Fire Station ?

Brentford’s firefighters of yore might be bemused to discover the use to which their impressive red-brick edifice is being put in the 21st century. At ground level is a Cuban-themed bar, with vibrant murals of Che Guevara & 1950s automobiles on the walls; here you will find the local beau monde sipping cocktails such as ‘pump my Kir’ (Chambord topped with Prosecco) as they wolf down burgers & wraps. Up the spiral staircase is a more sedate restaurant, contemporarily furnished with smart chairs & light wooden flooring. The menu is a slightly eccentric mix of European & Middle Eastern food, moving from chicken skewers on mango salad, via an Iranian stew of lamb with split peas & dried lime or mussels in a creamy white wine sauce to warm apple pie ‘drowned in custard’. The second floor holds a private function room.

ivy eats again. :: ivy eats again: The Fire Station, London

The Fire Station is a long standing institution, at Waterloo. Back in the late 80's The Fire Station was one of the first gastropubs. To many commuters delight after an one year extensive refurbishment, it has re-opened. The vintage fire station memorabilia sets the finishing touches to the fabulous refurbish. There is no fireman's pole that you can slide down, but with details such as vintage fire extinguishers, fire hose chandeliers, tap coat hooks, and a wall panel of the 1666 Great Fire of London.

The small menu feature highly on the current food trends of wood fired pizzas and sumptuous burgers.

Quiet eating :: Quieteating The Fire Station

I guess I should have known better. Although, in my defense, we weren’t exactly spoilt for choice. For a weekend lunch around Waterloo, if you aren’t too keen on the chains, there isn’t really that many options.
