The café sibling of the Edinburgh Larder Bistro on Alva Street, this pint-sized daytime venue also
operates as a deli, selling all kinds of specialist provisions and comestibles for the city’s foodies. ‘Wee’ and ‘hearty’ breakfasts kick-start the day, while lunches offer mixed plates of cheeses,
pâtés and cured meats from the deli counter alongside soups, sandwiches and cold plates (Bonnet goats’ cheese with beetroot pickle or Ramsay’s ham and mustard) with assorted salads. As you might
expect, there are plenty of cakes, tray bakes and cream confections too, with unusual teas, homemade seasonal cordials and coffees from Edinburgh specialists Artisan Roast. The place is licensed, so you can also sup patriotic brews including Edinburgh Gold, Brookville Dark, hoppy
Holyrood and even Thirstly Cross cider.

For some reason, I’ve had it in my head that it was on St Mary’s Street, so have set out to try its wares on a couple of occasions, then been distracted by other places (Circus and Wee Bite spring to mind). But today, I was focussed on finding it, and having correctly ascertained that it is in fact on Blackfriars Street, was soon welcomed in to its busy confines.Seating around twenty, this charming spot radiates homemade heartiness from every fibre of its being. Their deli counter is packed with sweet and savoury delights, and is a feast for the eyes...
