SquareMeal Review of
The Draft House, Birdcage
This capacious Victorian pub has been taken over by The Draft House, making it the sixth London branch in the chain. This small group of boozers, founded by Charlie McVeigh, is growing fast. It has recently launched Bump Caves on Tower Bridge Road and plans to open more sites over the coming months. Beer is taken seriously, so expect third of a pint ‘samples’ from the likes of Camden, Beavertown and Kernel, craft brews aplenty, and potent (‘extreme’) bottles such as Dark Star Belgian IPA (at 7.2% abv) and Samichlaus (at a mind-numbing 14%). You can also look forward to a menu of classic pub grub (from pies to Scotch eggs, via pork scratchings and mac ’n’ cheese), a lively, rockin’ soundtrack, and a good-sized crowd on Sunday lunchtimes following the famous Columbia Road flower market.
