SquareMeal Review of The Crown at Frampton Mansell

Very old & very charming, this venerable inn was once a cider house & slaughterhouse, but starting trading as a pub in 1737. Situated in the cute south Cotswolds village of Frampton Mansell, The Crown is central to the local community who gather here to drink & eat within its reassuringly thick stone walls. The unspoilt interior is divided into three bars/dining rooms, & has become a showcase for some of the best real ales in Gloucestershire – not only the award-winning Butcombe Bitter, but also Stroud Organic Ale & Laurie Lee’s Bitter from the Uley Brewery. As for food, the kitchen serves up a seasonal British menu, which might run from rabbit goujons or smoked salmon kedgeree to roast chicken breast with a drumstick terrine & fabulous pies, with fillings such as mixed game or root vegetable & pearl barley.
