SquareMeal Review of
The Clerk & Well
An imposing black-and-white frontage hung with flower baskets marks out this stalwart of the Clerkenwell pub scene – a favourite with local workers, shoppers and students from the nearby City
University, who appreciate its attractive modern interiors, pool table and fair prices. The food comes courtesy of a ‘Thai kitchen’ that knocks out satay skewers, seared beef salad, red and green
curries and pad thai as well as a smattering of pan-Asian standbys ranging from sesame prawn toasts, pork ribs and steamed edamame to Penang beef, aromatic crispy duck and miso-marinated salmon
with roasted beetroot. There are also platters to share, while liquid refreshment comes courtesy of regulation beers, cocktails and wines. Upstairs is a sedate private function room done out in
formal townhouse style with flimsy drapes, varnished furniture and white leather sofas.
