SquareMeal Review of The Bountiful Cow

Is it a retro pub? Is it a steakhouse? Actually, The Bountiful Cow is a bit of both – although the garish red neon sign, bovine memorabilia and beefy menu suggest that it errs towards the latter. The location (beneath a tower block) isn’t much to write home about, but once inside, it’s a different story: dark walls provide the backdrop for a gallery of all things cattle-related – from cowboy-movie posters and advertising signs to ornamental steers’ heads. Meanwhile, the menu puts steaks in pole position ahead of whopping ‘bountyburgers – although the kitchen also keeps gastropub die-hards happy with octopus salad with warm potatoes, char-grilled sea bream and chips, Welsh ‘wizard’ rarebit and Belgian apple tart with ice cream. Helpful staff wax lyrical about the virtues of steak and are happy to suggest appropriate wines from the ultra-compact list.

I was looking for somewhere to eat in Holborn when this place popped up. It was lovely, staff were lovely and friendly, the food was excellent. I had the Goats Toast, which I ate too quickly as it was so tasty. I then had the lamb, this was cooked to perfection.

I would definitely recommend this restaurant as the food is great and my guests were very pleased. My only concern was the level of service received. It was extremely busy in the restaurant but feel they shouldn't accept so many bookings if they can't handle the number of booked tables.
