The Vineyard

1 St Katharine's Way , London, E1 9UN

SquareMeal Review of The Vineyard

The ‘upstairs/downstairs’ layout of this versatile Davy’s at St Katharine Docks has changed slightly since last year’s Guide. The main dining room has been expanded, & all is light & bright when it comes to the contemporary decor. Short menus mix British standards (bangers & mash, haddock with hand-cut chips & minted pea purée, baked egg custard tart) with European ideas including grilled goats’ cheese crostini with balsamic leaves & fusilli with Mediterranean vegetables & red pesto. Keenly priced set menus (£13.95/16.95 for two/three courses) help tempt evening diners. The traditionally appointed basement is now used solely for private functions, from breakfast through lunch to dinner. There are plenty of attractively priced wines on the drinks list, & the outside terrace is perfect for warm-weather drinking – despite the lack of direct views over water.
