SquareMeal Review of
The Fountain Inn
An attractive beer garden offering views of the Wye valley and a smart fire-warmed interior with exposed beams and flagstone floors make this 17th-century inn an appealing prospect. Expect a
varied, ever-changing line-up of draught beers including, perhaps, Wychwood Hobgoblin, Brains Reverend James, Whittington’s Cats Whiskers and choices from Butcombe and Mayfields – plus ciders from
Thatcher’s and Broadoak. The Fountain Inn also stages two beer festivals each year for the real ale enthusiasts. If you want something to go with your pint, the kitchen has several notable
specialities ranging from homemade curries to an extravagant seafood paella crammed with mussels, cod, rabbit, chorizo, calamari and more besides. All desserts are homemade, too, with fruit from
the garden put to good use in summer. Tintern Abbey is nearby.
