SquareMeal Review of
Tell Your Friends
This Parsons Green newcomer is an attractive, bustling place aimed at the fashionable well-off friends of owners Lucy and Tiffany Watson whose appearances on Made in Chelsea guarantee column inches. The long ground floor interior features a bar, raised booths and conventional tables. There’s a conservatory and outside seating at pavement level while downstairs a private room is set for jolly parties. The menu is entirely vegan, and considering that this is all the rage at the moment, it’s rather irritating that the menu describes several of its dishes in non-vegan terms – see the ‘chicken’ bites, ‘tuna’ tartare, ‘faux gras’ and ‘fish’ & chips. Perhaps this is because Tell Your Friends doesn’t have enough confidence in its food? There’s no need to worry though, as the food here is actually delicious.
Try a sharing board of vegetable paté, hummus, crudités, lentils, chutney and flatbread, or opt for small plates like jackfruit bites crumbed with hemp and sunflower seeds with BBQ sauce, or tomato tartare with sesame ginger sauce. Jackfruit does a passable imitation of chicken and chopped tomato looks (a bit) like raw tuna. No pretence involved with terrific bowl food including the Buddha mix of quinoa, sticky tofu, sweet potato, avocado and pak choi or mains such as courgette lasagne layered with cashew cream cheese and walnut Bolognaise. There are puddings, cocktails, cold press juices and a great wine list, plus exceptionally pleasant staff. The restaurant welcome dogs too – hurrah!
