Roux graduates, TV chefs and all-round “good guys” Christopher and James Tanner are the talented pan-shakers behind this well-liked restaurant in one of Plymouth’s oldest buildings.The pair set up their self-named restaurant at Prysten House back in 1999, and it’s been full steam ahead ever since. The nautical location means that plenty of fresh fish makes its way onto the menu (think seared lemon sole with fennel pollen and Fowey mussels), but meat eaters and veggies also do well: flat-iron steak with glazed ox cheek and Roscoff onions or ‘jacket potato’ gnocchi with Jerusalem artichokes, foraged mushrooms and goats’ milk Cheddar could be followed by chocolate pavé with banana and salted peanut or pistachio cake with forced rhubarb and yoghurt pannacotta. The brothers also run The Barbican Kitchen in the old Plymouth Gin distillery.
