SquareMeal Review of
A convivial new restaurant and bar spread across two floors on King Street, Suri draws on the flavours and culinary traditions of the Mediterranean, the Middle East and beyond. Its menu of sharing plates is divided into sections named ‘Graze’, ‘Field’, ‘Farm’, ‘Waves’ and ‘Enjoy’. Smoky aubergine, from the Field section, was charcoal-roasted with za’atar spices, sesame and sumac, topped with creamy citrus yoghurt and pomegranate. Our ‘Waves’ dish also featured a turn on the Josper grill: sweet, delicate blackened hake –though the accompanying fattoush and crab salad was slightly lacklustre. No complaints, though, about the Lebanese lamb cutlets, which arrived plump and pink (served with sweet roasted garlic tzatziki and zesty mint yoghurt), or the roasted free range chicken thighs in an appetisingly smoky tomato, butter-bean and chorizo ragu. An inspiring selection of gin and tonics is the highlight of a drinks list that also includes well-considered cocktails and a decent choice of wine by the glass. Add the warm, welcoming atmosphere and friendly service, and Suri looks set to go from strength to strength.
