Squaremeal Review of St Ermin's Tea Lounge at St Ermin's hotel ?

Hidden away in this St James’s hotel is one of the best value English afternoon tea spots in the capital. Sit in the lounge just off the ornate lobby to tuck into beautifully presented sandwiches, delicate cakes and a selection of sweet and savoury bites. Chef Adam Handlings has gone to town on the choices and has catered for gluten free diners (gluten free bread sandwiches, scones, macaron and panna cotta) as well as seasonal choices for those who can eat everything. Children are especially spoilt, with a Busy Bee tea, consisting of egg, jam and chocolate sandwiches, pies, brownies and hazelnut and bee pollen cake. Whilst there, ask to visit the in-house bee colony – fascinating viewing which makes the whole visit worthwhile.

Afternoon Tea Dates are my favourite way to meet a blogger; you get to natter away for a few hours, eat pretty pastries and sip away on beautiful champagne while discussing your next big trip. Suze from the Luxury Columnist (my blog date) and I popped along to try the new Flight of Fancy Afternoon Tea at St. Ermin’s Hotel after receiving a lovely invite from the hotel. I think the blog date went well…we are still following each other on social media – you will get instantly unfollowed after a blog date if you don’t eat all your pastries!...

Luxury Columnist :: Flights of Fancy - St Ermins

St Ermin’s Hotel hides many fascinating secrets behind its historic facade. It’s actually the only publicly accessible building closely associated with British espionage, of which more later. I was here on a less covert mission, as I’d been invited to taste their Flights of Fancy Champagne Afternoon Tea in the company of fellow foodie, Kelly from Around the World in 80 Pairs of Shoes.

Arriving outside the imposing courtyard, I admired the Victorian red brick building. It was built in 1889 as a mansion block on the site of a 15th century chapel dedicated to St Ermin and converted into a hotel in 1899. During...

Today I’m celebrating Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday with a slap up tea. She’s Britain’s longest-reigning monarch and a lady of amazing dignity and strength (in my opinion anyway). And where better to celebrate her life than at the stylish St Ermin’s Hotel in London’s St James where they’ve laid on a Royal Tea in her honour. It’s available through the summer until August 31.
You enter the St Ermin’s through a lovely courtyard garden.
