Slim Jim's

SquareMeal Review of Slim Jim's Liquor Store

LA comes to Upper Street at Slim Jim’s, with neon lights and rock and roll to set the mood, and beer and whiskey to smooth the way. A dive bar vibe is recreated by music posters, red leather bar stools and booths, while a jukebox and live DJs ensure the joint is jumping. Bottles of American beer (such as the Boston-brewed Samuel Adams) and draught Camden Hells USA, also help maintain the north London-American mash-up, and lovers of the grain have a stellar choice of Scotch, bourbon and Irish whiskies. Classic cocktails run to a straight-up Martini and Mojito; alternatively, how about a Pickleback (one shot of whiskey followed by a shot of pickle juice)? If you’re in need of a sustaining bite to eat, investigate the choice of classic and contemporary pizzas.

The bouncers would not let me in because they insisted I was trying to sneak in drinks and even though I asked them to search me and prove it they refused. One of the bouncers who was a person of colour took me aside and told me they are trying to minimise black people. I was with a group of about 20 people and I was the only person of colour in the group and the only one in the group refused entry. It was humiliating and unfair. I would never dream of going again.

I would leave a review of this bar but didn't get further than the front door so i'll leave a review of the door staff. intelligent dress code means they turn away anyone for any reason and appear to enjoy doing it. I was hoping to meet friends inside but as i was wearing a leather jacket and chino's i was classed as a suit wearing city boy. Pathetic, bolloxed the night for everyone. Avoid this uppity reversed snobbery at all costs. In fact avoid Upper St.
