SquareMeal Review of Sheraz Bangla Lounge

Brick Lane has become as much a touristy destination as a Mecca for curry fans, although its down-home eateries still deliver the goods – even if most of them go in for hassling self-promotion & touting. Sheraz Bangla Lounge is a good bet, & one of the more upmarket venues in terms of decor & food. Done out in a modern style with large windows, leather seating & neutral colours, it's a refreshing change from some of the less salubrious joints, with refined dishes to match. The place pleases the diehards with a full quota of dhansaks, kormas & biryanis, but it's worth making a beeline for the more intriguing assortment of Bangladeshi specialities. Look for mass aloo (shallow-fried freshwater fish with spiced potatoes) or murgh shatkora (chicken cooked with Bangladeshi lemon & fried garlic), & don't forget to order a dish of uree bissi (runner beans) on the side. It may be a tad pricey, but the absence of touts speaks for itself.
