SquareMeal Review of Queenswood

Set up by the people behind Soho’s Damson & Co, Queenswood manages to balance the needs of London’s meat-free diners without forgetting the omnivores. The focus is on a menu of “inventive” food that puts vegetarian dishes “at the forefront” – think ‘green’ shakshuka (spinach, chard, nettles etc)., courgette and haloumi burgers or avocado risotto with wasabi, asafoetida and basil. However, there’s also plenty for those who favour the delights of steak-frites, piri-piri chicken with smoked sweetcorn or glazed salmon fillet with soy, shiitake mushrooms, bamboo shoots, coriander and brown rice. Vibrant presentation is a plus point, and “everything seems super healthy” according to one convert. Finish with a creative dessert or sidestep sweets in favour of a classy cocktail – perhaps a Caipirinha spiked with ginger. Queenswood’s handsome, artfully distressed interior is also perfect if you want to hang out with friends.

This place is listed as Vegan. It has one tiny vegan option on the menu and nothing is marked as vegan on the menu. The staff look at you like you're a freak when you ask for a vegan option. Your fellow patrons will be stuffing their faces with massive whole cook animal flesh next to you. This is not suitable for vegans trust me.

As a vegetarian, it can be difficult to find quality dishes in restaurants that aren't an afterthought in the kitchen. Queenswood puts vegetarian eats at the forefront for their menu without leaving out top notch options for your omnivorous friends. Having tried several of the dishes on their menu, I can say that they were full of magical tastes that pleased my palate to no end. It was refreshing to not have to see options of either fried cheese or white flour-based dishes. An array of fresh produce and nutrient dense grains ensures you won't leave with a double chin and it's done without skimping on the flavor. There's an array of unique flavors tasted throughout the menu - They're not afraid to experiment. The cocktails were exotic and tasty. It's tempting to stay there after you've finished eating and just hang out with a few drinks. Really nice atmosphere as well. I wasn't crazy about the desserts... I think they could do better based on how good the rest of the menu is. I would recommend this restaurant to all of my vegetarian friends who are looking for non-gross food. I find that restaurant service usually lacks in London but it was very good here. A+.
