Queens Head & Artichoke

Squaremeal Review of Queens Head & Artichoke ?

As an all-rounder, the Queen’s Head & Artichoke has plenty going for it. Handsome Victorian surrounds & charming knick-knacks lend it plenty of personality, & its tapas plates have been known to pack a full-flavoured punch. Take a breath before setting off on a trip from asparagus with a soft-boiled egg to oriental seafood skewers, via deep-fried breaded cauliflower with harissa, stuffed vine leaves & patatas bravas. If you want a full meal, order from a Med-leaning menu that might include gazpacho, braised Ibérico pork cheeks with Puy lentils or ratatouille with a baked egg, followed by a plate of fruit, honey & yoghurt. Occasional lapses in the kitchen, ‘haughty staff’ & high decibels may limit QH&A’s appeal beyond the neighbourhood, but it remains a handy local haunt

Great 16th Century Pub

I have been to the Queens Head and Artichoke a few times now, each time now for Sunday lunch. The first two times the place was empty, the food and service good. This gastropub is located just a few yards down from Great Portland Street tube and in the dead mans zone before Camden town. From the outside, it looks like the sort of boozer you dont want to go in to unless you fancy a quick pint and there is nowhere else to venture. However, once inside, the pub has a nice feel although the frosted lead...
