SquareMeal Review of Poppy's Place

‘Farm-to-table’ café food is the premise at family-friendly Poppy’s Place – a tie-in between Scarlett Guess (one of the family behind St James’s stalwart Rowley's) and chef Alastair Prichard who runs a catering company. Breakfast and brunch classics kick-start the day (anything from croissants or buttermilk pancakes to fry-ups, hash browns etc), while lunch aims to feed the working crowd with a special ‘toastie’ menu, soups, sandwiches on artisan bread, salads and cakes. Come evening, Poppy’s dons its glad rags for modish tasting plates such as endive with celeriac and ham rémoulade, plus steaks with unlimited chips and daily specials including grilled cod with olive-oil mash and gremolata. For afters, there's Neal’s Yard cheese, and honeycomb ice cream or flourless chocolate cake might be on the menu. Vintage furniture and quirky lighting creates a home-from-home vibe in the airy panelled room.
