25 Tapas Soho

Pix London restaurant chain Spanish tapas

SquareMeal Review of Pix Soho

A mini-chain of dinky “super-cool” pintxos joints, PIx has carved out a niche by offering what one reader called “a unique take on speciality Basque tapas”. Although you can reserve a table, most punters simply drop by on spec – lured by the tempting counter-top displays. The drill is simple: help yourself to all sorts of skewered ‘peen-chos’ in two sizes and collect the sticks in a glass before settling up at the end of your visit. Top calls have included crisp honey-glazed cod fritters, quince-coated chorizo on Manchego, quail’s egg with jamón Ibérico and textbook tortilla – plus a cheeky Iberian take on bubble and squeak. Thanks to its easy-come, easy-go grazing concept, Pix is a guaranteed hit with day-trippers, shoppers and the after-work crowd – especially as service is “full of smiles” and the food is backed by some terrific Spanish wines and sherries.

I came here with a friend on the recommendation from a work colleague. Neither of us knew what to expect but we were both blown away by the charm and service in this restaurant/bar. The bar staff were happy and chatty and explained how it all worked – help yourself and save your sticks to pay at the end! A tab was opened for us for our wine as well which made for a hassle-free evening (we just split the bill at the end of the night). The food was tasty, if a little basic, but it was constantly refreshed, offering up different options each time we went up for more! It was very reasonably priced at either £1.95 (short stick) or £2.95 (long stick) per plate. The only downside is that they have a 90 minute limit on tables… although my friend and I enjoyed their spanish wine for over 4 hours!! We were told that on quieter nights they were not so strict with the policy, although on busier nights this would not have been allowed. We both thoroughly enjoyed our night and are looking forward to going back with more friends in the not too distant future!

We were just taking in some fresh uk winter air, strolling portobello for some presents for family and seeing how much better our choice of tree this year could have been!!…when we came across the latest offering from the Pix Pintos guys. we saw the flames heralding us in to what is definitely their best looking bar to date. The staff promptly jumped to attention as we stood at the door mouths already watering at what has to be the best selection of pintos in london. we were up in town early fall this year at the covent garden and soho branches and got sold instantly by this restaurants unique eye to basque specility tapas. we were seated by the manager who gave us a succinct run down of the wines on offer. we made our choice a wonderful deep red from the ribera region (boyfriend's fave) but quickly saw the sherry selection! wow! a nice fino with some great food and awesome setting, IN HEAVEN. the service was full of smiles and despite a rather hefty bill we left bellies full and smiles beaming. thank you for a wonderful time. we'll be back. Must try: QUINCE CHORIZO, SEARED TUNA, CHEESE AND FIG AND DONT FORGET THE FINO SHERRY

I didn't know Pix and found it by chance while looking for somewhere to eat quickly before theatre. What a pleasant discovery! Food and service were very good: potted shrimps, olives stuffed with ricotta cheese were my favourite. Excellent value for money in an area where it's alwasy difficult to find good places to eat. I'll be going again
