Located in a historic, Tudor-style mansion in the stunning grounds of Woburn Abbey, Paris House is a Bedforshire gem with a fascinating back story, an impressive art collection and award-winning food. Run and owned by executive chef Phil Fanning and his wife since 2010, the restaurant is traditional in nature, with white tablecloths, upholstered oak chairs, smartly dressed, professional waiters and bucolic views, but the food is up-to-the-minute modern. Fanning’s six, eight and ten-course tasting menus are truly global in inspiration – a succession of thrillingly presented dishes that might include tandoori-spiced rabbit, crispy pork with pickled ginger and kimchi, turbot with choux farci, and parsnip panna cotta all in one sitting. On Sundays, a mini degustation takes the place of the traditional roast. If you can, splash out on the matching wine flights, which are expertly chosen from the venue’s extensive cellar.

We had the chefs table for lunch. An experience I'd highly recommended. The interaction with the Head Chef was excellent and it was a pleasure to see him and his team work. We were made to feel welcome and comfortable from the outset. I made a couple of requests of the waiters before arriving and all were met as required. The menu was created for us and this felt really special. The wine was matched to the food perfectly. The food was well conceived and well executed. The foie gras mousse beautifully light but still full of flavour. Each dish had strong flavours and garnishes that added to the layer of flavours. I highly recommend Paris House and the chefs table. Great experience.

Iregularly fine dine but this has to be one of my worst experiences.70s style food even a modern twist couldnt pull together.The cold plates tasted very pre-prepared overchilled straight from the fridgewith anaemic iappearance.The warm dishes unbalanced with flavours to resemble a forgettable school dinner.Six course menu id rather forget.

We visited Paris House as a group of 6 for a Saturday lunch to celebrate my wifes birthday in April 2009. The surroundings are beautiful it has to be said. However, unfortunately the atmosphere was lacking and the pre-dinner drinks were served in a room which best resembled a waiting room? Considering how quiet the restaurant was, the service was very slow and the waitress lacked both confidence and knowledge. The food was ok but there was something missing from the whole dining experience and there seemed to be zero atmosphere, which was a real shame because the restaurant has so much potential. Our bill could be compared to that of somewhere like Claridges and we all felt that for the experience we received this was far from good value…in fact my wife was so embarrassed that she felt compelled to pay the whole bill herself!!
