Yotam Ottolenghi took London by storm a few years ago when he opened his first restaurant-cum-deli in Islington, and even now that he’s onto his fifth site, the storm shows now sign of abating, rather, it seems to be getting stronger – this is almost an empire now. But given the style of these places, where diners are faced with a mouthwatering counter of food, including beautifully presented salads and lip-chewing cakes, as they arrive, we’re not really surprised. There have been many imitators of the style but the original is still the best – lucky Spitalfields, then, to be the home of the latest in the line. The vibrant colours and flavours of the Medierranean and the spices of the Middle East are a truly winning combination, delivering flavourful, healthy and fun food, enjoyed by City workers and ladies who lunch alike.
