One Under Lime

SquareMeal Review of One Under Lime

Nestled in the undercroft of the Lloyd’s building, the work-hungry brigade can drop by for an energising bacon bloomer or a smoked salmon omelette before getting down to business. The kitchen provides plentiful lunchtime sustenance – think platters, ham and duck eggs or Franconian’s Londoner sausage ring with mash. Small bites (Welsh rarebit, Scotch eggs) take over in the evening, when liquid refreshment is the primary concern. The wine list has been put together by Gerard Basset MW and offers a fine spread of Old and New World bottles organised by style and grape variety. The interior has been given a sharp, high-gloss look with a shiny bar, green strip lights, black pillars and tricksy illumination. In summer, an outdoor Peroni bar serves those basking on the sunny terraces. Heaters, blankets and gazebos shelter those hardy enough to go alfresco in colder months.

We went on a sunny day and had a fabulous afternoon and evening! The BBQ was busy, the food was great, the staff were all smiles and delightful. Needless to say we stayed all afternoon enjoying the hospitality and there was live music that evening. Great atmosphere and a thoroughly recommended place in the heart of the City!

It so nice to go to a venue where the staff are friendly and very helpful to find you a table, even on their busiest nights. The wine list is good and varied, the food is fresh and tasty, and my favourite is the fish platter.

I went to 1 Under Lime with some VERY fussy American clients. They loved it. Food, wine and service were all first class. They felt very spoilt and can't wait to come back to revisit. Very well run establishment and the staff know their business well, especially their wines. Was very impressed.

With an overseas visitor in tow, we strolled into Leadenhall Market in search of lunch and an outside table at 1230 on one of the warmest days of the year. It was an impulsive decision, but we were hopeful when we saw fifteen unoccupied tables at One Under Lime. Our arrival was intercepted by a female member of staff who asked if we had a reservation and when we said ‘no’ she laughed sarcastically and shouted over to her male colleague ‘they’re asking for a table and they haven’t booked’. Her manner was so non-customer friendly from the start, but it worsened when she cajoled her colleague to join in the client mockery. Without further ado we decided to find somewhere else to eat and as we turned on our heels to leave, the waiter superciliously said ‘but I haven’t even told you if I have a table for you yet’. We couldn’t care less; we ignored his condescendingly raised eyebrow and off we went to nearby Ortega for a truly delicious platter of tapas in the sunshine free of all hassle. One got the feeling that the staff at One Under Lime were trying to take city workers down a peg or two, but it didn’t have the desired effect on us. They just lost custom – and let’s hope others read this and beware the female with the sharp tongue

I went to One Under Lime about a week ago after work, just for a few drinks and a bite to eat. It was the first time i had been back since it had been refurbished and i was very impressed. The decor offered a warm, inviting atmosphere. The staff were friendly and attended to me and my group straight away. The food was great value for money and i would definately go back again.

Food and service are amazing without the staff being intrusive. Would recommend this place to everybody. A joy of a location off of the main road.

Very disapointing. Food was poor, my friend wanted a salad (she is vegetarian and there were only 3 options on the menu for her) but all that was on offer was a small £3.50 side salad as a side order. When asked if they could add some roasted peppers or advocado the answer was no as the main kitchen was next door! what kind of service is that. to make sure your customers come back you accomodate them as much as you can. This kind of so called restaruant would not last 20 seconds in Italy or Spain or France, poor England will always be way behind in the catering/entetainment stakes!! Won't bother going there again!
