Olives Bar London Kensington

SquareMeal Review of Olives Bar

Worthwhile cocktail spots are scarce near Gloucester Road station, so the lounge bar at Olives – The Bailey’s Hotel’s airy Italian restaurant – is exceedingly welcome. Bringing Bellinis, Martinis and stuzzichini to SW7’s well-heeled denizens, this grandly proportioned establishment resides within an imposing Victorian townhouse. Settle in its leather club chairs to sample the likes of Pineapple Mojito, Frozen Daiquiri, the rum-based Chocolate Orange or Dirty Martini – as well as Italian calls such as Negroni, Aperol Spritz, Americano and Paradiso (limoncello, vodka, Campari and orange juice) at £9. Vino Italiano by the glass costs from £6.25 and includes back-in-fashion Lambrusco. To fill a gap, snack on grilled pork belly with parsnip chips, egg and mixed vegetable frittata, calamari with crispy kale, or gnocchi filled with mascarpone and pumpkin in a walnut sauce (£8). Traditional afternoon tea is also a highlight, competitively priced at £19, or at £26 with a glass of Moët.
