Miz en Bouche

Squaremeal Review of Miz en Bouche ?

“A fine little French restaurant” just a couple of minutes’ walk from Sadler’s Wells, Miz en Bouche looks the part with its chunky wood tables, lime-green banquettes and a blow-up photo of Rheims Cathedral on one wall. The clean-lined interior chimes well with a menu that offers a mix of small plates and mains backed by a few burgers and salads. If you’re in grazing mood, go for garlicky snails bourguignon, Gruyère and onion tart or hand-cut steak tartare – otherwise feed on pork chops with bean cassoulet, roast leg of lamb with flageolet beans or grilled bavette with fries. For afters, the chocolate mousse is “meltingly lovely”. Brunch is served until 4pm, service is “gracious”, and there are some gluggable French wines too. The basement can be hired for private bashes.

First time visiting the Bistro with two friends. I booked the table the night before - for free. It was a delighteful experience. We were very happy Food, drinks, services - all nice , fresh and quick organised , real pleasure! Sure will use the Bistro everytime we go to Sadler's Wells or if we come around because we don't live in the area. Will be recomended to our friends. Well done!

Could be better

First of all, the reservation system didn't work -- why, I don't know, but our reservation was not there when we came. You might to look into it, Square Mile. Thankfully, there were free tables, so we were not turned away. Second, restaurant is O.K. but nothing to write home about. Kind of nice, small, a bit homey. Food fine but nothing special. Service is extremely slow but you can see the two poor waitresses running around like hell, it's the kitchen which is slow. But quality of...

Good value French restaurant in Islington

by   silver reviewer (17)

Jan 2014

Editor's pick We chose Miz en Bouche for its proximity to Sadler's Wells and because it had an offer of 3 courses with a glass of wine for £18. In the end though, we went with the a la carte menu since the set menu on offer was somewhat uninspiring. The starters seemed dull and the main courses were a little basic between a choice of chicken, fish or a risotto and they just didn't appeal. However, the a la carte menu turned out to be pretty varied and not particularly expensive. My mum had the warm goat's cheese...

A fine little French restaurant with an exciting menu

by   (1)

Aug 2013

This small ‘hidden gem’ in St John's Road is hard to find, but well worth the effort. It's also convenient for Sadler's Wells. The welcome was gracious, and a helpful, positive attitude from staff prevailed throughout our pre-theatre meal. We had the set three course menu, which we thought was imaginative and adventurous, and not too expensive, even with a carafe of wine and coffee. We both started with warm prawn salad, then my husband had pork chops with a bean cassoulet and I had an artistic-looking...
