SquareMeal Review of Manor Arms

Once a wide-boys’ hangout, the Manor Arms has stripped away all vestiges of 70s dodginess to reveal an appealing mix of 1930s oak panelling, bow windows, original tiling & other architectural plus points. A pewter-clad oak bar maintains the pub’s boozy reputation, with a fine choice of real ales (Adnams Regatta, Doom Bar, Meantime London Pale Ale), a handy selection of workaday wines & some classic cocktails, but the vast opened-up interior is now dominated by an on-view kitchen. Check out the display of inventive seasonal salads (perhaps asparagus, samphire & Jersey Royals with shallot dressing), or dip into the main menu for mainstream Brit offerings such as Cornish crab on toast, should of lamb with marrow & carrots or mixed berry posset with shortbread. Saturday breakfast/brunch & Sunday roasts too.

I've lived in the area for 25 years and have been waiting for a decent pub for 24 of them. The Manor Arms ticks all the boxes, it's been refurbished to a high standard without being over done. There is still a good drinkers' pub atmosphere with the addition of excellent food, outside space and a child-friendly policy. Well done to all concerned for turning a horrid, stinky old pub into such a local gem.

I've eaten here several times – evenings and Sunday lunches – and every meal has been excellent. Small menu so you know everything is fresh and the fixed menu is excellent value. We're also known to pop in occasionally for just a drink – a good selection and a comfortable bar.
