Squaremeal Review of Manchester House ?

“One of a kind in Manchester”, TV chef Aiden Byrne’s latest venture combines a “fantastically exciting” industrial-lite restaurant with an über-glamorous bar/lounge – located 10 floors apart in a reconfigured office block. There are great city views from the dining room, where blingy urban decor sits well with dishes that come dressed to impress. Expect “plenty of theatre” as the kitchen sends out a raft of “wonderfully creative”, highly worked and exceedingly “cool” ideas (some of which have already found TV fame on The Great British Menu). But Byrne isn’t one to sit on his laurels, and his repertoire continues to evolve: current dazzlers range from braised lamb’s heart with pearl barley, miso and pickled kohlrabi or steamed pigeon with cherry broth and mustard to cured red mullet with confit tomato and bouillabaisse. There’s also a mighty dish of braised flanked of beef with Txogitxu tartare and choucroute, while the must-have dessert is Manchester-tart ice cream – unless a combo of chocolate, hazelnut, coffee and liquorice takes your fancy. “Fabulous afternoon teas”, tastings and celeb chef appearances also help to make this the “best-ever experience”.

Aiden Byrne’s CV bristles with big names from the fine-dining circuit: Tom Aikens, The Grill at the Dorchester, Pied à Terre, Adlards and Danesfield House, to cite but a few. Since 2009, he’s been looking after The Church Green (his pub/grill at Lymm) and Manchester House, an ambitious city-centre restaurant in partnership with Living Ventures. Byrne still holds the record for the youngest British chef to win a Michelin star (aged just 22).
