‘Fresh, seasonal, sustainable’ is the mantra at this no-bookings eatery/takeaway named after a piece of fisherman’s kit. Lure is a hip, no-bookings venue done out in trendy metropolitan style – all distressed wood, industrial pendant lights, exposed brickwork and piping, with counter seating by the windows and an open-to-view tiled kitchen. Camden Hells beer goes into the batter for the “amazing” fish and chips (usually cod or haddock), but the menu also promises plaice goujons, fish-finger butties and some more swanky, exotic ideas reflecting chef/owner Philip Kendall’s Aussie roots – think blackened salmon with miso and saké or Scottish mackerel fillet with harissa and rose-petal marinade. For afters, jars of Lewis of London ice cream await. In addition to London-brewed beers and lagers, the short, well-curated drinks list features some gluggable fish-friendly wines. Be warned – it’s rumoured that Lure is a favourite local haunt of Ed Miliband.
