SquareMeal Review of
Love Die Late
During the day, this sweet little coffee shop on two floors serves quality arabica and robusta by Broadway Market roasters Climpson & Sons, alongside light snacks. The 1950s decor – Malibu-blue and frosted-pink Formica dining sets, chequerboard floor, chrome-striped streamline American retro styling – gives a Grease style spin to proceedings. As local offices empty out, however, the baristas become bartenders, creating well-made cocktails that do not follow the dinky duplex’s 1950s theme. Modern mixes include Land of Grace (Diplomatico Reserva rum, aged white port and clover honey), Plymouth-gin based Fisherman’s Martini (finished with an ozonic whiff of the briny), Machaska Daisy (combining pisco and crème de poire), and various Slings and Sours all at £9. Wines are priced at either side of £20, with Prosecco and Nyetimber highlights of the list. In all, a fascinating Fitzrovia indie.
