SquareMeal Review of L'Anima Café

Clean-lined, spacious and decidedly modern-chic, this casual sibling of high-flying L’Anima sits just around the corner from its more grown-up sibling. It’s the perfect pit stop for breakfast, a daytime snack, lunch or a light supper, with the bonus of watching the City go by through its big glass windows. You can pop in for an early pick-me-up or grab a bite to go from the adjoining deli (a sandwich or salad, say). After work, the office brigade packs the impressive 360-degree bar, while the lucky few kick back on leather sofas with plates of calamari fritti, spatchcock baby chicken with lemon and chilli or grilled salmon with celeriac mash and salsa verde – plus pizzas and pasta. Service is swift and prices are reasonable – and you can stock up on provisions from the L’Anima shop, if you’re in the mood for cooking.

L'Anima restaurant, bar and cafe occupy a vast base of a tower office around Snowden Street,at firts I mistakenly went to the restaurant very clean spacious and modern and was politely shown the menu and helped to find the adjacent cafe round the corner. I had been expecting with the name cafe a dingy place with old wooden tratoria type tables but was delightfully surprised to encounter a state of the art modern chic extremly spacious design interior very comfortable and a quarter full at the tail end of lunch with no time restrictions ie serves food all day. There were plentiful leather sofas and the service and greeting was relaxed and unfussy once it had been made clear what you required. Teams of cuisiniers were all busy producing beautiful gourmet dishes all around the free to wander bar and corridor areas by the washrooms. Table choice was up to the customer. Service was quick and prompt perhaps by in the end too many staff(I had interaction of one sort or another by about 5 different persons) The food was worth the price around £25 for a good three choices soups, breads, side dishes, pizzas which were more like omlettes but nicely so not the usual stodgy pizza pastry and they have a big fresh oven for that. On the whole very satisfactory.

2 friends and I had lunch at the L'anima Cafe on Wednesday 23 July 2014, (the Cafe only opened on the Monday). The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, we met Francesco and Luca – awesome! The service was excellent and the food and drinks were out of this world. The menu is mouthwatering and very good value for money. The ambience is marvellous, with nice tables and comfy sofas – an ideal venue whether you wish coffee and cake, drinks or a full meal. The Deli converts to a private dining room with your own chef in the evenings. I highly recommend you visit the L'anima Cafe and Deli.
