SquareMeal Review of Khan's of Kensington

A popular and longstanding casual Indian eatery in Kensington of over 30 years, serves traditional Indian fare in a relaxed and light-filled chic setting. Officer’s lamb chops in honey sauce, stuffed sea bass and chicken breast with homemade paneer, spring onions and ginger are house specials, but the menu also takes in more familiar-sounding dishes such as vegetable samosas, chicken jalfrezi, rogan josh and king prawn dopiaza, plus a decent selection of tandoori roasts, veggie sides and breads. To drink, order a Cobra beer, lassi or a refreshing jeeri pani (spiced lemon water with cumin and chilli). A private dining room is popular for big parties and corporate get-togethers. Khan’s is great choice for lunch or dinner and is also handily placed for the Albert Hall and the museums over the road.

The restaurant service is bad enough but the delivery is even worse. We ordered a take away for delivery at 7pm on Tuesday evening. An easy order, nothing special, the food arrived within 30 minutes BUT minus one of the main dishes. During repeated calls to the restaurant we were told 'it's on it's way' – ‘its on the next delivery’ – ‘it will be 10/15 minutes’ – 'no, it's not a priority delivery' – and the best one ‘what dish?’ The missing dish arrived 45 minutes later, amazing considering we live about 5 minutes away by bike. Needless to say the food was ruined by this time… and the missing chicken tikka masala looked suspiciously like beef… No apology was offered, nor was a refund. The attitude of the many staff members we had the misfortune to speak to was 'we've got your money so why should we care?' We will not be using this restaurant again, nor will our friends either. I would advise anyone fool enough to think about ordering not to bother.
