SquareMeal Review of
Jamon Jamon Islington
All the classics are present and correct at this lively, rustic tapas bar, from salt-sprinkled pimientos de padrón and platters of finely shaved Ibérico ham, to fiery gambas al ajillo and squidgy croquetas. The minimalist design of the interior (dark wooden floors, nearly bare walls and flashes of colour from Moorish tiles) means what’s on your plate has to impress, and in general it does a good job. Regulars rave about the deep-fried squid and the chorizo cooked in wine, while there is plenty of choice for vegetarians, including the popular, gooey-centred tortilla española. This is the place to come in a group, with made-to-order paellas and jugs of sangria both designed to be shared, while the atmosphere is nearly always up for it. We like Jamón Jamón’s straightforward, unpretentious – and therefore authentically Spanish – approach.
