SquareMeal Review of
Aimed squarely at local office workers and high-rise dwellers, this youthful new hangout is from the Urban Leisure Group, also behind Farringdon's Ask For Janice. Heist Bank occupies sprawling premises in a redeveloped canal basin and incorporates a bar/diner, terrace and flower shop. Inside, the post-industrial decor features post-punk pop art, utilitarian furniture and French football tables. Reasonably priced cocktails run from Brambles and perfect-serve G&Ts to Scofflaw (a bourbon and grenadine Manhattan). These are bolstered by a £20-45 wine list (try the Hungarian Moon River Pinot Noir) and a beer wall plus bottles that are high on hoppy appeal: Buxton Wild Boar IPA and Fourpure Oatmeal Stout, for instance. To eat, wood-fired pizzas are topped with the likes of lamb, preserved lemon and feta; alternatively, order small plates (devilled chicken livers, say) or large (trout with raw vegetable and herb salad). Downstairs, the breeze-block party room resembles a set from an Aussie crime drama; head here for vintage Nintendo games and karaoke.
