SquareMeal Review of
Green's Restaurant & Oyster Bar
AFTER CLOSING IN APRIL 2016, GREEN'S HAS NOW SECURED ANOTHER SITE. MORE DETAILS WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN MARCH.
Savile Row suits and Churchill shoes are the dress code of choice at this long-standing restaurant where Mayfair's wheelers and dealers come to feed on plates of oysters, smoked haddock Parker-Bowles and char-grilled halibut with hollandaise. Fish cookery of the old school is the thing here, but you can also satisfy any red-blooded cravings with bangers and mash, braised venison haunch or a 400g rib-eye on the bone with all the trimmings. Dark panelled walls, cocooned leather booths and stools at the wraparound bar are in perfect tune with the rather staid, chummy mood of the place, which might seem out of sync with some of the neighbourhood's rakish young pretenders. The caviar menu is a luxurious bonus, and the wine list offers some surprisingly contemporary numbers among its clarets and Burgundies.
