Burgers may have gone all hipster of late, but this specialist – whose thick patties, imaginative garnishes and superior quality broke the McDonald’s mould when the chain first launched – isn’t worried. Its airy, stylish dining rooms are spaces in which you actually want to linger – instead of plastic trays, sachets of ketchup and acres of wipe-clean surfaces, expect a real restaurant, with well-versed table service, proper condiments and cutlery, and a booking system (take that, queues!). The huge menu lists nearly every burger combination under the sun, from a simple cheeseburger to versions containing lamb, beetroot-and-mint hummus, whipped goats’ cheese, Cajun relish and piquillo peppers, or beef with Raclette cheese, ‘baconnaise’, chilli-chocolate ketchup and onion jam. There are colouring books for the kids, G&Ts for the adults, and salted caramel milkshakes for anyone who still has room. The result? Everybody’s happy.
