Squaremeal Review of Eight Over Eight ?

“Buzzy”, “busy”, “exciting”’ – 14 years in and Eight Over Eight still wears the crown as the epicentre of grown-up “party” fun on the King’s Road. The Zen-like black and white interiors, oriental screens and fluted lampshades have remained timeless, with chopstick holders and napkin dispensers keeping everything the right side of informal. Tables fill up quickly with “the usual pretty people”, all lured by the prospect of some celeb spotting and a super-friendly menu of “excellent” pan-Asian classics. From spare ribs with black bean sauce and yellowtail sashimi with citrus dressing to Malaysian lamb curry and the in-demand black cod with sweet miso, you’ll struggle to find a dud dish. Even the crispy banoffee spring rolls are a good shout. The streetside bar is equally popular thanks to its roster of top-notch Asian-themed cocktails, with the Pomegranate Margarita scoring particularly highly. Service is “quick” and the “friendly and chatty” staff keep the mood upbeat.

Party atmosphere and great food

Have always loved Eight Over Eight, my only reservation being that when given an 8.30pm slot, one is expected to leave after 2 hours, just when one is really getting into one's stride. I had dinner there recently on a Friday night with another couple and had a very good evening. At 8.15pm there was still room to sit at the bar where I had 2 very delicious pomegranate margaritas, made with just the right amount of crushed ice. The place soon filled up with the usual pretty people, and as always...

Stop rushing your patrons!!

I have darkened these doors for more than a decade and love the place; the food, the humming bar, the relatively edgy staff (for SW3 that is) and the overall vibe. I nearly always have a similar version of the same; edamame, chilli salt squid, prawn and chive steamed dumplings, sea bass sashimi, black cod with the greens of the day. Last night I added soft shell crab tempura with a wasabi sauce to the mix as my brother in law insisted. We couldn't fault the food though the portion of sea bass...

A fairly reliable "oldie" on Kings Road (leaving aside their closure following a fire a while back). Its a pan-Asian fusion offering with a nice (although typically rather crowded and noisy) bar. In particular on weekends the place is typically quite buzzing and while the food isn't in the league of the super modern Asian offerings (like a Zuma, Hakkasan etc) it is rather pleasing and to be fair priced accordingly (although this part of town is never going to be cheap). Good and reliable...

We absolutely loved our evening at Eight over Eight. The staff was wonderful and the food even better. It is a very trendy and lively place but suitable for all ages. The food is just amazing and better than so many Michelin-star restaurants we've tried. I highly recommend it.

I came to eight over eight on a busy Thursday evening in january this year and was impressed by the food offered and the wine list was fantastic. However, I felt extremely uncomfortable as I was felt the 2 hours slot I was given for our table was rushed by staff. I even overhead a very smug Australian manager bossing the sweet Italian or Spanish girl we had as a waitress to hurry us along and ‘get us out’…I didnt appreciate this as I payed good money to dine there and was taking my husband out as...

A group of our friends dined at the newly refurbed Eight Over Eight on Friday evening. We didn't have a booking & were asked to wait in the bar for a table. As it was a celebration we all discided to go for cocktails, which were amazing good. The bartenders were recommending there favourites, so we when for it. The new layout of the bar was looking much better, than I remembered… After about 30 minutes our table was available & we went through to the restaurant, which had a good buzz to it. We were...

Having been a long time devotee of Ricker Restaurants, Eight Over Eight has always been a personal favourite. After the long awaited re-opening, we decided to wait a little while to head back and avoid the ‘new opening’ crowd. I must say, any problems they were having have clearly been ironed out as our experience of Eight Over Eight was better than I remember. Although the bar and restaurant were still very busy, the food was exceptional, staff were helpful and polite, and it was lovely to see some...

Eight Over Eight had been greatly missed by my friends and I. It always used to be somewhere we would make a special journey to get to but my experience over the weekend means it is certainly not somewhere I'll be rushing back to. Our bar nibbles didn't materialise and staff responded poorly when we chased up our order. For staff to be inexperienced, over-stretched or ill-trained in an establishment of Eight Over Eight's calibre is poor practice. For the manager in charge of the staff to appear...

    COVERS & CAPERS :: Cover & Capers: Eight Over Eight

    A couple of years ago, Tatler, the magazine synonymous with goings on along the King’s Road, said the following in its 2013 Restaurant Guide: ‘The great thing about Eight Over Eight is how consistent it is. Dinner on a Monday, late lunch on Sunday, even when the Mongol hordes descend on a Friday or Saturday night, it goes on doing what it does so well’.

    Andrea's Passions :: Eight / Eight: Tip Top Pan-Asian, Especially on Sunday’s - - Andrea's Passions

    A few Sunday’s back, Michael, William, Hash, and I, decided to have a ‘Sunday Fun Day’ at an old favourite of Michael’s & mine, Eight over Eight. Although always keen for a spot of fun, the main reason that we chose to dine on a Sunday is because the restaurant offers an outrageously good deal of 40% off its delicious Asian food every Sunday! Hence when Michael lived in Notting Hill, we would regularly scoot over to the King’s Road for our Sunday dinner but, since moving east, we haven’t been back – so a visit was long overdue!...

    I used to love Sex and the City and have watched every episode several times. Like the show, in my twenties I had three very special girlfriends, we all lived close to each other and we regularly used to meet for supper at Eight Over Eight - it was "our place". Fast forward a few years and there have been transatlantic moves, marriages, divorces, babies and so on and it has been a while since we have all got together. However 2 of us had a trip time memory lane to Eight Over Eight last night and it was great to be back. Eight Over Eight is a Pan Asian restaurant owned by restauranteur Will Ricker.
