SquareMeal Review of Edwins

Located above the Trinity pub (next door to Borough station), the smart dining room called Edwins has its own entrance and is run as a separate entity to the boozer downstairs. A minor refurb in 2016 resulted in a new partition separating the bar and dining areas; otherwise it still looks as if it’s been assembled from a closing-down sale at a discount store, with drapes, coarse-grained woods and white tiling around the bar, and a big neon ‘E’ in the window. The cooking is an eclectic mix of British, French and Mediterranean themes, ranging from small plates of steak tartare or scallops in filo with harissa mayo to desserts such as white peach trifle of pear and almond tart. In between, there are superfood salads, steaks and hearty dishes such as fish stew or gigot of goat with green beans, leeks, and salsa verde. Readers love the buzzy atmosphere and service too.

If you exit right out of Borough tube, then Edwins is only a few yards on the left-hand side, up a flight of stairs. If it wasn't for the board outside you could easily miss it. We were greeted by a friendly warm waiter, and the service remained as such. The food was excellent, and a good variety of very different dishes. Not the cheapest but in my view you get what you pay for. Definitely worth a visit and I will be returning!

Party of four, two had vegetarian and were happy, two had rib eye steak and grilled tomatoes, the steak was so full of gristle it could not be eaten and the grilled tomatoes were two almost transparent small slices. We were offered to select something else but declined, they gave two deserts free of charge to compensate. Shame because the service and atmosphere were good

I booked Edwins as I thought it was near Borough Market but it turns out to be nearer Borough Station but it's only a 5 minute walk from London Bridge. It was very quiet for Saturday lunch-time but was ideal for a catch up with girlfriends. The cocktails were delicious and the food was outstanding. I hope they are really busy in the evenings because it deserves to be a success. I would definitely go back and have no hesitation recommending it.

Just above the Trinity pub, this place is a wonderful local secret. Small but perfectly formed, the food is great value for money and always great quality. The room is fun and funky and the service friendly and knowledgable.

This fabulous find had been open a couple of weeks before we arrived for ‘mothers day lunch’. From the moment we entered the room the service was completely on the ball. Great food excellent bloody mary and beautiful room. Perfect place for a long lunch, highly recommend it!
