Located above the Trinity pub (next door to Borough station), the smart dining room called Edwins has its own entrance and is run as a separate entity to the boozer downstairs. A minor refurb in 2016 resulted in a new partition separating the bar and dining areas; otherwise it still looks as if it’s been assembled from a closing-down sale at a discount store, with drapes, coarse-grained woods and white tiling around the bar, and a big neon ‘E’ in the window. The cooking is an eclectic mix of British, French and Mediterranean themes, ranging from small plates of steak tartare or scallops in filo with harissa mayo to desserts such as white peach trifle of pear and almond tart. In between, there are superfood salads, steaks and hearty dishes such as fish stew or gigot of goat with green beans, leeks, and salsa verde. Readers love the buzzy atmosphere and service too.
