SquareMeal Review of Eastway Brasserie at Andaz

A straightforward brasserie that’s entirely suited to its no nonsense five-star hotel home. Choose to sit either at the big communal table, where you’ll rub shoulders with an easy crowd enjoying simple plates of tapas washed down with cocktails. Alternatively, if you want a smidge of privacy, find a quiet table to one side or dine al fresco on the Liverpool Street terrace. The food offering sees starters like Caesar salad and pumpkin veloute. Move on to sharing boards of cheese and charcuterie and top off with burgers, slow cooked beef or fisherman’s stew. Weekend revelers will love the house Bloody Mary bar for a pick-me-up at Saturday brunch.

Business lunches aren't all about 'sampling the best City restaurants'. These days a mid-range eatery with good food, decent service and an interesting wine list will fit the bill. Eastway seemed to offer just that and, being part of Andaz, I thought we could rely on everything going swimmingly. Overall it was OK. Nothing disastrously wrong and nothing to write home about. The menu offers a fair choice and the food was all fine if a bit bland. The service was definitely friendly but rather hit & miss I'm afraid. We had one incorrect starter, one missing item and a wait for the wine. None of it mattered but we noticed it. The wine list is a bit on the short-side by the way which makes no sense given they'd only have to carry it through from the hotel's main cellar. So no complaints but it was all rather forgettable really. And I'm not sure I'd go back.

Great spot for coffee or breakfast meetings in the City, right on top of London Liverpool St so easy access to the City, this is my bosses favorite haunts for meetings and, although he notes the food is expensive, it has a great atmosphere which is perfect for the types of meetings he hosts.

My boss had a breakfast meeting with a client and whilst service and the food was excellent he did think it a tad expensive for breakfast. Other than that though no complaints.

Eastway offers a modern eclectic menu and everyone is bound to find something to their taste. The seafood tagliatelle was wafer thin with light sauce and juicy seafood. Sadly the wine list is short and offers not a lot of quality at a fairly high price. The bar can mix a mean martini, but looked weirdly confused when I sent back my brandy - served in a balloon with ice! The staff are charming and attentive, but it does leave a little to be desired on the atmosphere front. Handy for a client meeting or a quick(ish) dinner if you are catching a train, but I wouldn't go out of my way.
