SquareMeal Review of Eastbury Hotel

Paul and Nicky King’s sedate Georgian townhouse on Sherborne’s main street has many attributes, not least its lovely walled gardens, relaxed lounge and conservatory-style restaurant with views of the productive veg patch. Menus follow the market and the seasons, with local growers and producers doing their bit: the result is an ambitious menu that might kick off with a plate of roast scallops, ox tongue and parsnip purée, ahead of Bridgehampton lamb cutlets with 24-hour cooked shoulder, Wookey Hole cheese polenta, sweet onion purée and wild garlic salsa verde. There are also plenty of ‘Eastbury classics’ for those who like something simpler – perhaps battered hake with dripping chips, aged rib-eye steak or gnocchi with roasted squash. To finish, try marinated pineapple with coconut jelly, pink praline and mango sorbet. More casual meals are also available in the terrace bistro.
