SquareMeal Review of
Dr Kluger's Olde Towne Tavern
‘The doctor will see you now’ – the receptionist’s announcement will reduce hypochondriacs to quivering wrecks. But at Doctor Kluger’s faux Edwardian consulting rooms, there’s no need to be nervous; it merely signifies that the sly old quack is open for business (from noon until 11pm or later), and ready to soothe a wage slave’s frazzled brow with his hokey range of doctored hooch. Dr K’s OTT is the latest bar within a bar from the Breakfast Club, whose other hip hideaways include Mayor Of Scaredy Cat Town. Order various £7 potions such as Swiss Alps (Aperol, Amaretto, cranberry, lemon, Prosecco and soda) and fortifying pre-mixes in old-fashioned stoppered bottles: A Jolly Good Time, for instance (Campari, Cointreau, bourbon, Dolin vermouth and tonic). Load up on beers and bombs, and join the disco. The food – burger, chilli and chips, Canadian poutine – is much more fun than at your average NHS hospital.
