SquareMeal Review of
Coya Angel Court Pisco Bar
Peru’s most sought-after export helps fuel this buzzy, bright-hued Inca lounge. As at its Piccadilly sister, Coya Angel Court is dedicated to pisco cocktails; its Pisco Sour (featuring Quebranta pisco) is as authentic a taste of Lima as you’ll find around Liverpool Street. Also worth a flutter are a pisco and Cherry Heering Manhattan, and twists on the traditional Sour recipe flavoured with passion fruit or blueberry and lavender. Top of the non-pisco alternatives are a Margarita made with Peruvian red pepper-infused El Jimador Reposado Tequila plus apple and avocado purée, and a sturdy Popcorn Sour (Laphroaig and Macallan 12 whisky anointed with truffle oil). Bar snacks also measure up: soft-shell crab with yuzu and aïoli; piquant ox heart; and (deep pockets alert!), Chilean Wagyu sirloin. By comparison, house fizz Ruinart is not ruinously priced. A dozen Hispanic wines offer further vinous alternatives, but the only beer is Alhambra Especial.
