Squaremeal Review of Chifafa ?

If there’s one thing the classic late-night doner, all hot sauce and polystyrene box, lacks, it’s round-the-clock appeal. What seems enticing in the early hours simply isn’t at any other time. Hence the perceived need for new kebab concept Chifafa. This classy modern takeaway (it has a handful of tables, inside and out) does kebab ‘wraps’ rolled with premium ingredients, sauces and house pickles that won’t have you reaching for the Rennie. Chifafa’s kebabs come in five varieties plus the odd special (goat merguez, for instance) and a pre-11am ‘breakfast kebab’. All arrive wrapped in soft souvlaki bread, with rice or various salads. Marinated British veal – tender and smoky from a Big Green Egg ceramic barbecue – impressed enormously, served with feta; dusty, dry falafel did not. Drinks have been carefully chosen; there’s Coke, of course, or trendier tipples such as coconut water, cold-pressed juice and craft beers.
