Chifafa

Squaremeal Review of Chifafa ?

If there’s one thing the classic late-night doner, all hot sauce and polystyrene box, lacks, it’s round-the-clock appeal. What seems enticing in the early hours simply isn’t at any other time. Hence the perceived need for new kebab concept Chifafa. This classy modern takeaway (it has a handful of tables, inside and out) does kebab ‘wraps’ rolled with premium ingredients, sauces and house pickles that won’t have you reaching for the Rennie. Chifafa’s kebabs come in five varieties plus the odd special (goat merguez, for instance) and a pre-11am ‘breakfast kebab’. All arrive wrapped in soft souvlaki bread, with rice or various salads. Marinated British veal – tender and smoky from a Big Green Egg ceramic barbecue – impressed enormously, served with feta; dusty, dry falafel did not. Drinks have been carefully chosen; there’s Coke, of course, or trendier tipples such as coconut water, cold-pressed juice and craft beers.

Amazing

I work nearby this little gem, and my colleagues and I absolutely love it. Whilst the portion sizes aren't massive, they are fine and certainly good value for money considering the taste and the quality of ingredients they use. I'll keep going back to this, and hope they expand. I'd have a kebab from here over anything else in the £5 - £10 range of takeaway options!

Posh kebabs in Clerkenwell

by   bronze reviewer (5)

Adding to the many lunch options in Clerkenwell is Chifafa, serving "posh" kebabs. I live locally so have tried it out 3 times. The idea is a good one. Kebabs are a great idea, but too often they're greasy and the meat is of dubious origin. There's none of that here, with all ingredients ethically sourced and the meat being slow cooked and/or barbequed. The problem is they're just a bit too polite. Portions are small, with bread making up well over half the volume of...
