With its sunny yellow interior full of rough wooden tables and stools, Chez Lindsay looks like a throwback to the 1970s. The menu – with its Breton-based cooking heavily featuring seafood, cream
and galettes – does nothing to dispel the impression. Modern and innovative it may not be, but when it comes to the likes of feuilleté de St Jacques and supreme de volaille à la Normande, or
boudin noir, Lindsay Wotton and the team do a fine job. The Loire-based wine list is an oenophile’s delight, but many find it more fun to stick to the thick mugs of Breton cider. Service is
distinctly French and gives as good as it gets: be nice to the staff and they’ll return the favour.

I dined last week at Chez Lindsay. It was very unimpressive. Service was disorganised and slow. The food was average at best in fact several of my guests would say poor. Several dishes had to be sent back to be reheated and when they were they were still mediocre. And the wine list is overpriced. All in all a venue to be avoided.It has a pretentious website claiming all sorts of Breton specialities and general high class cuisine. But the actual delivery does not remotely match the promise.
I dont know on which planet this restaurant would be regarded fondly; Squaremeals pitch about this restaurant is so off the mark. It is out-dated, unoriginal, unimaginative both in food and decor. One look at the menu just leaves you wondering if you are back in 1970 and expecting parsley as garnish. My starter of warm oysters in cider sauce did not go at all, it just tasted like off milk. On the fresh oyster plate, one of the oysters was actually off. The mixed fish/seafood main had the taste and texture like it had been frozen for a long while, and the roast potatoes tasted like yesterdays warmed up. What else was odd is that they served red wine chilled, you had the option, we thought we would try it but it just leaves your wine tasting like kool-aid.
What was most irritating though is that the decor is so bland, the owners simply dont seem bothered to put any effort into the restaurant and charging the prices they do, I think its outrageously over-priced for what you get. Dont bother with this place, you would be much better off heading to Bingham up the road for the same money.

Chez Lindsay is a charming local. Decor is nothing special but warm and cosy, good for a casual meal with friends. The menu is a notch above though with some complex traditional French dishes with seemingly improbable numbers of ingredients. Crustacean lovers are particularly well served.
This higher end selection is complemented by a wide variety of delicious Galettes, which can also be taken as a starter. All in all, it had something of the feel of a buzzy restaurant in a ski resort where you can throw caution to the wind and consume ridiculous amounts of calories in great comfort food.
Service was friendly and well paced throughout.
