Easy-going Caffè Uno looks sleek and simple these days, with a touch of Italian sunshine added to the mix. Now part of Prezzo Restaurants, the brand isn’t the high-street presence it was, but it’s still a useful neighbourhood stopping-off point, with all-day offerings to suit all pockets and palates. Breakfast means cups of hot Illy coffee and a pastry or variation on the full English theme, but come lunchtime, Uno gets into its pan-Mediterranean groove, dishing up appetisers of calamari and garlic mayonnaise, grilled chorizo and halloumi or nachos with salsa, followed by pizza and pasta as well as popular classics including burgers, wraps and large salads. Mini desserts such as lemon drizzle cake or chocolate profiteroles with a hot drink thrown in are a fun idea for afters.
